Relax and enjoy the heat

As you relax and enjoy the heat for the first week or so, I monitored all joints to make sure that there were no leaks, and there were not any. So since then we have enjoyed the comfort of gas heat without the expense of electricity. The neighbor wanted to put in natural gas, but remember the cost of natural gas is less than that of propane, but there are more therms of heat per unit of propane , so make sure that you bring that into account when figuring out the cost fo propane verses naturals gas. The nice part of the Utica Boiler and most propane boilers is that they are easy to convert over to the other fuel if you should wish to. (In some cases it is just a nozzle, in other cases you need to replace the burners...the nozzle is built in to the burners.) This set of blogs is about to come to an end now. In a few weeks, we will edit and add photos and move this blog in an article format to Install Propane Heat and later at The Home Project Book , in a few weeks not right now.

Fisinsh wiring and call Gas Guy

OK you have been cycling the circulation pump on and off and checking / repairing leaks. Expect some of these leaks to come from the solder joints you made and many less to come from the galvanized pipe. Now that your leaks are done, finish wiring up the system and install that emergency cut off. Mine is installed about 10 feet way from the burner at the entrance to the boiler /utility room. Now all the wiring is done, there is time to call the propane guy. I elected to pay the propane company to come in and install the tank, run the pipe underground from the tank to the house and make sure that the gas connections from the outside of the house to the boiler were ok. I dug the hole from where I thought the tank would be to the place that the gas entered the house. I dug about 6 or 8 inches deep, and was afraid that that wasnt deep enough but the Gas Guy gave the thumbs up on the trench depth. OK so I paid him to do this but he had it all there and he was only charging me a couple of bucks an hour to check out the "high risk" section. He looked at the stuff I did, tightened up a few of the joints, and said - "You did a good job" Gas Guy is a man of few words. He didnt like his picture being taken, but he got a crane to set the tank and did all the work for about an hours charge. I did pay extra for the delivery of the tank and the setting of the pipe, but anything that he did "for me" was less than an hour. Then he turned the gas on n and said "ok turn it on" which kind of supprised me. I tuned the boiler on and it worked! I had pretested the thermostas and kknew they would work. So we waited for the boiler to come up to temperature...he checked the flame and that looked ok. (There is a plexiglass viewer that you can observe the flame from and reset it using an adjustment if need be, but it looked ok too Gas Guy.)
